After a day of addressing jet lag, we make our jump to the Kenya - Tanzania border and the Masai region. It is 250 kms and an almost 6 hour drive. Time is important, so we will fly. This will be our three-day safari to see the native animals in their wild state.
WE fly on a single-prop plane.

We sit right behind the pilots.

En route, we fly over the Rift Valley.

Ours is the third stop. These are airfields in the best sense of the term. The runways are dirt and are cut into the grass.

In spite of the tenuous appearance of this approach, the pilot landed the pane safely and we were met by the safari vehicles and drivers who took us to the resort, the Karen Blixen Masai Mara Resort.
We stay in well-appointed tents with showers and toilets next to a river where rhinos and crocodiles live. Across the river from the lodge are trees and open spaces where we can see giraffe roaming. It is pretty incredible.
On our way in, we see a carcass of a rhino lying in a stream. Hyenas are providing their clean-up services by devouring the meat on the carcass.

In the foreground is a tiny kingfisher on a branch.

The view from the patio of the lodge shows the river in the foreground with the hippos.

And beyond are giraffes. We will see many more giraffes in the coming days.

In fact, tbe wildlife is overwhelming. Here are pictures of all the birds in the area.

And the animals.

More soon!
Cheers,
Brio
