A Stormy Night

Andiamo used her speed to great advantage on Wednesday, September 9. She left Head Harbor and went out into the Atlantic and went northwest down the coast to Acadia and Northeast Harbor where we went to the market for food. Then we went around the corner, planning on getting fuel in the harbor. But that dock is now closed for the season!! Yikes! So we went around to Southwest Harbor and filled our fuel tanks and water tank.

Our goal was to get our "housekeeping" done before Wednesday night when a storm was forecasted to move through.

Once everything was full, we motored around Acadia and went to the far northern part of Frenchmans Bay. Then we ducked into Flanders Bay and tucked in behind Stave Island. The island stood to our south. It has nice tall trees, so we would be protected from any strong winds out of the south. And that's what was predicted, along with lots of rain, starting around midnight.

Sure enough, the rain started late last night. The wind picked up. and Andiamo began her dance at anchor. By being in the lee of the island, we knew the winds would wrap around both the western end and the eastern end. But the winds were all deflected and we never received a full blast. Similarly, the waves all hit the southern side of the island and we remained sheltered behind the rocky beaches that extended out around us.

We were in our own nice little cove.

The next day the sun began to break through as we pulled up our anchor and motored out into Frenchmans Bay.

You can see the mountains of Acadia lying to our south.

Our goal for the new day was to motor south around Acadia, go over the "Bar" and into our next body of water, Blue Hill Bay. Then we head back north up Blue Hill Bay to Blue Hill Harbor. Thursday afternoon we plan to hopefully find an empty mooring for the night at the head of Blue Hill Harbor.

Cheers,

Andiamo

Here's the view from Andiamo looking at our "protection."

A Change in Plans

A quick note to say that instead of traveling further west to Casco Bay and Portland, we have decided to take advantage of a weather window. Tomorrow the winds will moderate a bit and will blow from
