Casco Bay: Portland East to The Basin
Updated: Sep 4
After fueling Monday night at the marina, we went off for dinner. The next morning we spent a good hour washing Andiamo down.
Here she is, all squeaky clean. No salt.

We casted off and meandered through the myriad of islands heading southeast to our "prize", Jewell Island.

We ate lunch on the flybridge. What a treat!
Off we went after lunch to the eastern end of Casco Bay, up the New Meadows River to The Basin, a quiet corner of the world where Brio ducked in during a hurricane a few years ago.
Here's a morning picture of the sun rising.

And after we left, we headed south, down the New Meadows River, and out to the Atlantic Ocean.
Once back in the Atlantic, we curved east, turning around Cape Small and headed back north again, up the Kennebec River.
This is such an historical river. The ships built at Bath all headed down the Kennebec to reach the Atlantic.
We headed up to Maine Maritime Museum, the Bath Iron Works (BIW) and the Sasanoa River.
At the Maritime Museum, there is a display of the "skeleton" of a clipper ship on the grounds that is clearly visible from the Kennebec River.

Just to the north of the Museum is the Bath Iron Works.
Here is a video tour of the Bath Iron Works.
From here, we leave the Kennebec and head down the Sasanoa to the Sheepscot and ultimately Boothbay.
Cheers,
Andiamo
