Circumnavigation of Vinalhaven
We decided to stay on Vinalhaven and go into Winter Harbor. It is reputed to be one of the prettiest harbors in Penobscot Bay if you are looking for a remote and wild area. Andiamo agrees!
We left Matinicus this morning. It was foggy. Visibility was about a half mile. We crept north, passing the rocks and ledges of Matinicus. You can see that we passed a buoy with two black balls on its top on our way.

As we approached Vinalhaven, the land's heat dissapated the fog which made it much easier to get to the Harbor through the outlying reefs.
Then we motored around the islands what is displayed as the top of Vinalhaven. There are many islands here with small, narrow passages. At some point, the fog came back in and obscured the land, the passages and the lobster boats.

Our radar told us the boats were there, but we didn't see them until they were very close.
We continued around Vinalhaven until we reached the beginning of Fox Thoroughfare. The entrance is defined by these two rocks named Fox's Ears. Someone has a nice sense of humor.

We traveled up the Thoroughfare between Vinalhaven and North Haven until we came out on the east side of Vinalhaven.

Winter Harbor is our spot for the night. It is a thin body of water that goes almost all the way into the center on Vinalhaven. On the chart there is a green anchor at its headwaters.
We are the only boat in here, which seems amazing. There are kyakers and a tiny bird.

Here is the view from Andiamo's flybridge.
Unlike Matinicus with its tide and waves, tonight should be quiet and flat!
Cheers,
Andiamo
