On to Acadia
What was initially planned to be a quick jump from Winter Harbor across East Penobscot Bay to Merchants Row between Isle au Haut and Deer Isle, turned out to be a lunch stop on Merchant Island and then an afternoon trip across to the Acadia Peninsula and Southwest Harbor for fuel and water. Then we went up Somes Sound, that famous fjord, to Abel's Lobster Pound at the top of Somes. This is a blessing of having a motor boat where a whim can be transformed into a plan that's then executed.
First, we start with some egg-cellent galley activity while we were still at anchor in Winter Harbor.

Then custards!

We pulled up anchor. After crossing East Penobscot Bay, we tucked into the little crevice of a harbor on Merchant Island.
After lunch, we realized we could have lobster at the head of Somes Sound that evening! Up came the anchor. (And another boat came in as soon as we left to take our spot in this private nook.)
We headed north to enter the Deer Island Thoroughfare, then headed east past Stonington to Jericho Bay, through Casco Passage and the bottom of Blue Hill Bay, across Bass Harbor Bar and finally into Western Way and then Southwest Harbor. This is all on the chart below. Essentially, we met many small islands, all of which we liked!

And here's the chart that covers our meanderings from Vinalhaven to Southwest Harbor, then up Somes Sound to Abel's Lobster Pound. The boat icon is shown going up Somes Sound.

On our way up the Sound, we encountered a squall. Wind and rain and darkness.

At the top of Somes Sound, we grabbed a mooring just off their dock and took the dinghy in from Andiamo.
Here's what you get when you eat outside (plus maybe some rain showers).

Next door to the lobster pound is a boatyard with some very pretty boats.

And, of course, the obligatory sunset.

Cheers,
Andiamo
