Swimming in Mud Hole
We left Roque during the morning of September 8th and motored out into Chandler Bay. That's the body of water that separates the island called Great Wass from Roque Island. We went out into the Atlantic and then headed north, back into Eastern Bay. This is sort of the "backyard" for Jonesport, which lies to the north. In here are fish pens, oyster rafts, strong currents, and lobster pots. It is also the place where we find such beautiful features as Mistake Harbor, Moose Peak Light, Head Harbor, the Cows Yard, and Mud Hole. It is this last one that did us in.

This is the end of this vingette. Jeff successfully went overboard by climbing down the swim ladder (step-by-step immersion in C-O-L-D water) with the knife, goggles and snorkle. The outdrive was tipped all the way up, which made the line much more accessible to Jeff's knife.
This could never have been possible on Brio where the pods are under the boat and would have required a diver.
After his good efforts, the lines were cut and he could peel them away from the propellers on the starboard motor. He's holding only some of the reward of his work.
Here is the entrance to Mud Hole. Brio came in here. Pamina came in here. It is beautiful and solitary. But there are lobster pots all of the place.

In our defense, there was no visible pot when the starboard engine stopped. And there were no styrofoam fragments of chopped up pot buoy. Andiamo thinks what we caught was a floating line still attached to a lobster pot on the floor of the harbor where the pot had already been cut off by an earlier boater. We're sticking to our story.
From here, we were now free again to motor with both engines. Lovely. Thank you, Jeff.
We went around Eastern Bay a little bit inspecting fish pens and oyster rafts, then picked our way through fields of lobster pots and rocky reefs south to Mistake Harbor. We exited Mistake Harbor heading south back out into the Atlantic.
Once back out into the Atlantic, we headed east around Moose Peak Light and Steele Harbor Island to enter Head Harbor.
Once inside Head Harbor, we continued north to reach the Cows Yard. This is where we anchored for the night.
Looking back to the Atlantic:

And looking around at the shore:

Today we start our trip back to Cape Cod. Our goal today is to seek a sheltered anchorage at the north end of Frenchmans Bay and prepare for a 40-knot wind out of the south. We'll let out lots of chain scope!!
Cheers,
Andiamo
